Thunder Bay: 49 Hours

In my first 48 hours, Thunder Bay has been a place of strange contradictions. It was an industrial city that has since lost most of its industrial purpose. There is a strong Native presence, but I am not sure where they fit within the larger community. I have seen beautiful schools and buildings that are abandoned in favour of newer, cheaper buildings. V. And I had the pleasure of attending a “shag” party for a couple about to be married. Everyone was wonderful and kind at The Elk Lodge, and I was charmed by the collection of Elk leader photographs that hung on the walls. Six days left to eat, photograph and recharge – Thunder Bay seems like as good a place as any.
